The Bayou City Road Runners (BCRR) proudly present Alex’s 5K & Kids’ K, an annual event honoring the life and legacy of Alex Jamrich.
Alex, the son of Milan Jamrich and Kathi Mahon, a former BCRR president, passed away unexpectedly on May 15, 2010, just one month before his 18th birthday. Alex was autistic, and his passing was believed to be related to complications associated with autism. While Alex brought tremendous joy to his family, navigating the challenges of autism also shaped their journey in profound ways.
In response to this loss, Alex’s family, friends, and the running community came together to create an event that celebrates his life while advancing autism awareness and supporting organizations that serve individuals with autism and their families. What began as a tribute to a beloved son has grown into a meaningful community tradition that combines fitness, remembrance, advocacy, and philanthropy.
We are honored that proceeds from the 16th Annual Alex’s 5K & Kids’ K will benefit Avondale House, along with two other charitable organizations. Funds raised through this event help support Avondale House’s mission of providing lifelong services, programs, and opportunities for individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities.
